Earlier this year the Government has introduced the not-so-new, but now mandatory Electrical Installation Condition Report (EICR), but the guidance was somewhat confusing regarding whether one needs the EICR now, later this year or next year. The Government's intention was to introduce the new regulation and organise it in a way that the checks are spread over the year and electricians aren't overwhelmed with new orders, however most responsible landlords decided to simply get the reports done now to avoid the confusion, which meant that most electricians are now busier than ever. While we at PTF do not welcome unnecessary and premature spending, when it comes to safety of our tenants, we never hesitate and so we have queued up for the checks with our trusted electrician.
The National Association of Professional Inspectors and Testers (NAPIT) have a lot of useful information on their website about safety regulations for homeowners, landlords, tenants and even tradesmen. Visit their website for more info. Our friends at Property Checklist have created a very handy and easy to read Electrical safety checklist for landlords and you can access it here.
